Travel

St. Louis is a jewel of a city hidden in the midwestern part of the U.S. Planning a vacation around the conference would be a terrific idea. ISSSS member Russ Hurd provides a website to help you explore the city: You can learn more about the "Gateway City," by visiting a second website: www.explorestlouis.com.

St. Louis is serviced by the Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, located north of the downtown area. Taxis, buses, shuttles, and a light-rail system (MetroLink) are available from the airport. Taxis will cost $35 one-way to the hotel. Shuttles are available at the airport and one-way cost is $17. The MetroLink rail system is a reasonable $4 one-way from the airport, but the MetroLink stations are four or five blocks from the hotel, which may pose a problem depending on the amount of luggage you have with you. If you drive, hotel parking will cost you $10 per day, or $15 if you use the valet service.

St. Louis has a new intermodal transportation center which services Amtrak, MetroLink, and Greyhound buses. Amtrak trains are reasonsable in cost and various discounts are available. Amtrak trains from Chicago, San Antonio, and Kansas City maintain regular schedules into St. Louis. More information about Amtrak can be obtained from the Amtrak website, or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL.
